Dear Parents:

Interim reports were sent home last Friday for the Junior High students. We are now into the second half of the third marking period. Please continue to encourage your child to do his/her best work. Tuition payments need to be up to date in order for your child to receive this report card.

School Happenings:

As we continue through the Lenten season, the children will be given the opportunity to grow in their faith. On Monday, March 8th the sacrament of Reconciliation was received by the students in grades 3, 4, and 5. On Monday, March 15th, the sacrament will be offered to the students in grades 6, 7, and 8. The children in kindergarten and eighth grade will be hosting the Mass on Friday, March 19th, the Feast of Saint Joseph. On Friday, March 26th, the children will attend the Stations of the Cross at 2:00 p.m. The classes will also attend the mass on Wednesday, March 31st. The eighth grade will present "Benjamin's Box, a Resurrection Story" after the 8:45 a.m. mass on Wednesday at the church. The play is based on the children's book by Melody Carlson. The children of St. Joseph will attend, and the class would like to invite parents and parishioners to come to this special performance during the beginning of Holy Week.

The eighth graders are also working on the 2010 yearbook. You can place your order starting Friday, March 12th. The books, priced again at $25, will feature photos of students in Pre-K through 8th grade. Order forms will be distributed on Thursday. Mrs. Shay, the 8th grade teacher and yearbook advisor, would like parents with digital photos of any school events including sports activities and clubs, to contact her. We hope to include many more pages of these activities this year.

Isabella Lewis was the first place winner in the "Safety Coloring Contest." sponsored by the Catholic War Veterans. Quinn Guth, Molly Coyle, Abby Sobutka, and Sebastian Tseng were honorable mention winners. Congratulations to all of these talented students!

The basketball banquet will be held in the gym this Sunday, March 14th from 2 to 5 p.m. All teams have been invited and trophies will be given to the players to recognize their efforts and talents this past year.

Looking Ahead:

• There will be an Irish Dance performance at the school on Wed., 3/17 - St. Patrick's Day at 10:15am. This performance will include our own world class dancers - Katharine Archer and Caitlin TeeKing.
• St. Joseph School will host the 7th and 8th grade dance for the cluster two schools in the diocese on Friday, March 19th.
• The second graders will be attending the Eucharistic Retreat on Sat., March 20th.
• The Fashion Show will be on Sunday, March 21st

**PLEASE REMEMBER: PLEASE DO NOT PARK IN THE FRONT SEMI-CIRCLE OF THE SCHOOL AFTER 2:30 ANY DAY OF THE SCHOOL WEEK. IF YOU PARK THERE PRIOR TO 2:30, YOU WILL BE REQUIRED TO MOVE YOUR CAR BY 2:30. THE SEMI-CIRCLE IS A FIRE LANE AS WELL AS THE DESIGNATED PARKING LOCATION RESERVED FOR PRE-K PARENTS ONLY. THANK YOU FOR YOUR COOPERATION.

UNIFORMS AND SWEATSHIRTS: There are lots of jackets, sweatshirts, and sweaters in the back closet! If your child is missing an item, please feel free to come and sort through the lost and found - perhaps it's there! Also, remember to label your child's clothing so that we are able to return it to your child as soon as possible - before it ends up in the back closet.

APRIL HOT LUNCH MENU

IMPORTANT REMINDERS

MORNING DROP OFF
Prior to 8:20, the drop off area/door will remain the same, but the children will be heading downstairs in the morning to wait, supervised in the hallway and/or library prior to class. If you drop off your child after 8:20, we ask that you use the semi-circle in front and drop off your child in front. We are going to try to preserve our new gym floor during the winter months! Thank you.

SCHOOL DELAYS AND CANCELATIONS
In the event of a school closing or a delayed opening, you can access information specific to Saint Joseph School on the Cancellations page of our website. You can also access this page from the left hand menu on this page and the Parents page. Please bookmark this page for easier access in the future.

We generally post any school closings or delays to the website AS SOON AS WE HEAR - which is very early in the morning - usually before 6:00AM.
For a 90 minute delay, school begins at 10:05 AM.

2010-2011 REGISTRATION
We sent home registration forms for next year. Please fill them out and have them back into the office as soon as possible, please. The deadline for re-registration is Catholic Schools Week - February 1st through the 5th. If you know for sure that you are not returning to SJS, please let us know sooner rather than later. Remember, if you REFER someone to our school who actually signs up, you will receive $500 off of your tuition ~ Just make sure the family that you are referring puts your name down at the top of their registration. As mentioned earlier, you can definitely get more than 1 referral.

Phys. Ed Update - February 2010

Simply bag them up and drop them off at the school any time between now and April 11th. 8th graders will be available after all of the masses on April 10-11th to help unload your cars.

FASHION SHOW TICKET ORDER FORM

Interested in donating but don’t know what to do?

Here are some wonderful ideas for events or items that can be very successful in raising monies for the school. Several families may go in together to host an event. These events can be held at your home, at the home of the highest bidder or delivered. The host determines the number of guests they want to invite. It’s a great way to have some fun.

♦ Donate a time share of vacation home for a week/ weekend
♦ Offer up your services (ex: lessons, sport clinic, handyman, landscape)
♦ Tea Party: 6 little girls enjoy tea sandwiches, juice, and dessert
♦ Treat of the Month: A tasty desert delivered to your door each month
♦ Tickets to a sporting event or play
♦ Gift certificates
♦ A round of golf for 4 at your club
♦ Dinner: You decide on a theme/meal for 6-8 guests
♦ Champagne Brunch: Quiches, fruit platter, and mimosas
♦ Game Night: Cocktails, appetizers and a few different games

Do you have any other ideas? Any takers?
