March 4, 2010
Dear Parents:
Have you purchased your tickets for the Fashion Show? This is an annual spring event and the profits will be given to the school. Many SJS families and parishioners enjoy this Sunday afternoon of social activity. Mrs. Gavel is the volunteer chairperson for the Fashion Show. Please consider joining us for an afternoon of fashion and fun. Do you need a bag to carry your groceries? St. Joseph School has shopping bags with the school logo that you can purchase. The bags are three dollars each or two for six dollars. If you are interested, you can send in a note with the money and we will send them home to you.
School Happenings:
The basketball season is officially over. The teams did very well and we are proud of their performances on and off the court. In the first playoff round, the teams won and advanced to the playoff games. These final games were played on Saturday at Immaculate.
We are now looking forward to the Sports Banquet where we will be honoring the basketball players and cheerleaders for an exciting season.
I want to thank all the coaches who volunteered their time and made this season successful. The boys varsity coaches were head coach Jeff Font and assistant coaches Chris Coyle, Dave Fredette and Tony Capanna. The girls varsity coaches were head coach John Fleming and assistant Dan Clarke. The JV boys coaches were head coach Jim Arconti and assistant coaches Jim Harron and Tim Bohling. The JV girls coaches were head coach Kurt Guth and assistant coaches Dave Russell and Matt Gallagher.
The coaches are looking forward to their game against the players on March 20th. Good Luck to all the participants!
Our cheerleaders received a medal and a trophy displayed at the school for their participation in the cheerleading expo. Thanks to the cheerleading coaches; Mrs. Font, Mrs. Guydan, Mrs. Lewis and Mrs. Gavel.
Our second graders took their annual trip to the John Paul Nursing Home on Tuesday, March 2nd. This year the first graders joined them. This is always an experience that enriches the lives of the children as well as the people they visit. They bring entertainment and joy to the residents. This trip was postponed from last week due to the weather.
Looking Ahead:
There is an early dismissal day on Wednesday, March 10th. The dismissal is at 11:45 a.m. and there is no hot lunch provided.
**PLEASE REMEMBER: PLEASE DO NOT PARK IN THE FRONT SEMI-CIRCLE OF THE SCHOOL AFTER 2:30 ANY DAY OF THE SCHOOL WEEK. IF YOU PARK THERE PRIOR TO 2:30, YOU WILL BE REQUIRED TO MOVE YOUR CAR BY 2:30. THE SEMI-CIRCLE IS A FIRE LANE AS WELL AS THE DESIGNATED PARKING LOCATION RESERVED FOR PRE-K PARENTS ONLY. THANK YOU FOR YOUR COOPERATION.
UNIFORMS AND SWEATSHIRTS: There are lots of jackets, sweatshirts, and sweaters in the back closet! If your child is missing an item, please feel free to come and sort through the lost and found - perhaps it's there! Also, remember to label your child's clothing so that we are able to return it to your child as soon as possible - before it ends up in the back closet.

IMPORTANT REMINDERS
MORNING DROP OFF
Prior to 8:20, the drop off area/door will remain the same, but the children will be heading downstairs in the morning to wait, supervised in the hallway and/or library prior to class. If you drop off your child after 8:20, we ask that you use the semi-circle in front and drop off your child in front. We are going to try to preserve our new gym floor during the winter months! Thank you.

Interested in donating but don’t know what to do?
Here are some wonderful ideas for events or items that can be very successful in raising monies for the school. Several families may go in together to host an event. These events can be held at your home, at the home of the highest bidder or delivered. The host determines the number of guests they want to invite. It’s a great way to have some fun.
♦ Donate a time share of vacation home for a week/ weekend
♦ Offer up your services (ex: lessons, sport clinic, handyman, landscape)
♦ Tea Party: 6 little girls enjoy tea sandwiches, juice, and dessert

♦ Tickets to a sporting event or play

♦ A round of golf for 4 at your club
♦ Dinner: You decide on a theme/meal for 6-8 guests
♦ Champagne Brunch: Quiches, fruit platter, and mimosas

The eighth grade clothing drive fund raiser was very successful! Thank you to all the families who participated. We wanted to let you know that we will continue to collect unwanted, gently used clothing, blankets, towels, coats, and other items over the winter. Simply bag them up and drop them off at the school. We will store them here until we schedule the truck in the spring.
